Field Dimensions in Florida

I had a chance to visit with Mark Allister, who created the Northern Lights/Southern Night tournament, about the field dimensions in Leesburg. Apparently, everything is tied to the height of the fence - per the NCAA.

Mark told me that they went with the NCAA recommendations that are published in the rule book (I looked it up to confirm), which are "4-foot fence -- 210 feet in right and left fields and 230 feet in center field"

Tech Softball Park has a 6-foot fence, so it falls under the recommendation of "190 feet in right and left fields and 220 feet in center field." The actual Dimensions at TSP is 200 down the lines and 220 in center field.

Of course, it doesn't matter when you crush a ball that Meredith Slaw did yesterday for the grand slam that broke the game open. That ball needed a flight attendant!

Nice job, Hokies!
